When people think of filtering in Excel, they picture the filter arrows on the header row. But opening a menu for every column gets slow — especially with multiple columns. The answer is Slicers: button-style filter panels attached right to your table.
With your table selected, go to Insert ▸ Slicer and pick the columns you want — in our example, Category and Month. Each gets its own button panel that you can drag anywhere on the sheet.
One click on Electronics instantly filters the table: from a total of ₺72,100 only the Electronics rows remain. Pick January in the Month panel and two filters work together — the intersection total (₺31,500) updates instantly.
Without writing a single FILTER or SUBTOTAL formula, you end up with a live report panel made only of buttons. It's simple enough to teach to someone who has never written a formula — and the result looks as professional as a pivot.
Watch the follow-up where we combine slicers with a Pivot Table: you'll see the pivot re-summarize itself live as you filter. Happy filtering!
